Water edge flicker
« on: Dec 06, 13, 12:07:28 AM »

Been testing some things with a swamp area. When having a bunch of shallow water against mostly level ground ive noticed a ton of flickering of the water, by flicker I mean the water expands and shrinks against the edge of the terrain where the land and water bump against each other.

The arrows point to where it happens. The water stays same shape over all but when running by it or rotating camera etc it's pretty "glitchy" looking.

Whats the best way to remove the flicker?

At that tiny scale with relatively large polys there's no good way to ensure there's no z-fighting. Make the puddles deeper, or build specific assets to do the job.

If it's for shallow puddles in a swamp, have you thought about making your own plane, texturing it to look like thick, muddy liquid, and then set it to be a non-collision mesh? You could even add a very slow moving animated texture to it if you wanted to give it a slight sense of movement too.
