Hey everyone!

Just wanted to show you a bit about our project "Slaves of Rome"

Its a Roman/medieval mmorpg.

When we first started the game we looked at some other mmorpgs out there and noticed something was missing...

There are a lot fantasy and sci-fi games which makes a "new" mmorpg like any other.

Thats when we decided to make a game based on the Roman era and all its glory. No necromancers, no fireballs or frost magic.

We are going to build Rome from scratch as close to the real deal but also give it our own personal touch. Some other locations will also be added like Athen, Carthage, Alexandria.

The players will be able to learn about the Roman history, wars, and politics.

Nice concepts guys, I checked out the facebook page and it looks like you're making some good progress, keep us all updated!

just fyi, they actually did a game like this. Gods and Heroes - Rome Rising, but definetly looks good man keep up the good work i love the old greek and roman culture (far better than todays pop culture anyhow).

I worked on gods and heroes, and it had nothing similar to this except the name Roman. We focused entirely on the fantasy, with no reality. And it never shipped anyways. Except when some crazy people bought it 4 years later and tried to launch it without updating anything. :-)

Building realistic Rome is a huge task. I look forward to seeing what you guys get done.

Hey. Havent been on for a while on the forums :D Im really happy to have gotten response on the game. :D

Once SpeedTree is out we will make a new thread to show the progress ;P

Love the concepts, really great work and the sound tracks are terrific.  Look forward to watching how the game comes along.  :)

What did you do for the music?  Thats been something I want to figure a solution for.

That i canīt really answer since its our composer who made the music. He will use FMOD once we get further into the development.

The combat will use "walls" something like SWTOR does. also players will be able to use shields for cover.

Looking great so far Josh, you have really stuck with it.

In my opinion you couldn't have picked a deeper culture than that of the Romans. Almost every bit of my concept comes from a small piece of roman history and to be honest A lot of people care about how you portray it.

so 1. Don't mess with the facts unless you know the facts.
or  2. Keep it fantasy a spinoff of Rome, and make sure you let them know that.

The gods are in a category of their own, are you going to include the historic gods? or create your own versions of them?
after all, the gods were the biggest influence of history both good and bad.

And yeah we are going to keep it as fantasy free as possible but still do our own modifications on the different locations. Since its hard to know exactly what it looked like in that time.

we havent discussed around gods or religions yet. but we will get there soon enough. :D

Hey guys.

We have been working hard on the game lately. Wanted to show you guys some WIP shots. Most stuff needs alot more texture work done (seams showing and repetative textures)

i've done all models and im not a modeler so the models aren't done the proper way. But they will have to do for now until er get a modeler on the team.

that's pretty cool byberg. I like the open feel of the whole place. The buildings were obviously enormous so it really fits. Some more banners and plants, little details, it will be even better.

I can just imagine being carried around in my cart by some slaves as I eat grapes on my cushions and pillows. Then I tell them to stop as I watch two trainers messing with a lion in chains. And I yell out "Delicious! DELICIOUSLY ENTERTAINING!!" *grapes dribbling down my fat mouth*. ...then I wave my slaves on, to carry me to my box seats.

haha yeah its a big square to fill.. and since im doing the modeling myself atm it goes kind of slow. Think it will look awesome once we manage to fill the space :D

if you have time Grogbro your more then welcome to help out on modeling if you have some time over :D

We used whiteboxes as placeholders for the lighthouse, towers and walls.

I really wish we could export those whiteboxes. Then designers could scale something out and make walkways, overhangs etc, test it out then export it as a reference model for an artist. We used to do it all the time in cryengine and it worked awesomely.

Heres an updated screenshot of one of the forest areas. Still alot of foliage and terrainwork to be done.
