Title: URDEAD Online

URDEAD Online (UDO) is a Small Scale Multiplayer Online Role-playing Horror Game (SSMORHG!) set in a post-apocalyptic world. Players take on the roles of survivors in the aftermath of mankind's greatest catastrophe. Amidst the ruins of civilization, they interact with each other and defend themselves as they fight to survive in a wasteland of danger and chaos.

Here are a few screens and there is more info, concepts and other stuff on our website (http://www.urdeadonline.com).

We are in the very early stages of testing and blocking out the City. Everything is mainly for placement, and needs to be reworked or revisited for some 'love'. Very little work has been done on the characters textures and right now we are just using diffuse textures on all of our assets.

These are some early shots of our base character. He still needs a lot of art love, and some hair. ;)

I know, he looks like hes saying "Hhhrrrmmmph!" and pouting. I just need to spend a lot more time on him...all of him.

Hey Stadi, thanks man! We have a team of two, a programmer and myself so we will see what happens.

We need more MMOs that are outside of the normal fantasy context imo. Glad to see a new one. Screenshots look good.

The screen shots are awesome.
Can't wait to hear more about the game.

Question: Is the character actually holding the shotgun? Or is it just placed to look like that.

Sent a PM  ;) were making almost the same project, might as well work together...

Thanks all for taking a look!

Yes, the shotgun is actually in his hands. His trigger finger and the rest of his digits actually fall exactly on the weapon so it was a great first try at placing the weapon. I'm usually not that lucky with weapon placement right off the bat.  :o  Right now we've just replaced the Axe that was in-game, the location of the model anyways. We are still figuring out weapons.

We are actually staying pretty a small team at this point ActivistMonkey. I am trying to get the style down, but really I am only placing temp buildings and blocking out the city and I am thinking the style of the game will come through as I actually start painting instead of just slapping textures on and manipulating UV's. But, this is the quickest way I can do it to get to a point where we see if its fun or not. Really though...blowing away zombies in any situations is a lot of fun.

@ActivistMonkey - I've contacted you over IM. You will be taken into our moist underbelly and consumed. It will be a slow painful process.

Thanks HE Team for making the servers faster! Ours boots up like a charm!! No more running to make a sandwich, play with my dog, and get a drink anymore, all before the server even says 'Waking Up'.  ;D

Title: Shadows of the Dead!
Post by: grogbro on Oct 21, 12, 11:04:01 AM
Is there a trick to making it so the dynamic shadows attach all the way to the foot, or is that just how it is? The shadow seems to stop at the ankle or so.

Pay NO attention to his Michael Jackson glove or any of the texture or modeling work here. It all needs to be hit on again.

Nice, the zombie looks great, and that annoying camera depth with the shadows stretching to invisible by their feet will be a non issue with the sapphire release, so that's good too. :-)

Thanks Cooper! We are still hard at work in our spare, spare, time to get this going. Saphire will be an awesome release. We can't wait to have more control over Developer permissions and the advanced HDR will be nice, even though we haven't even gotten into any of the cooler aspects of HE. Can't wait.

What's the technical reason behind why the foot shadows don't draw? I've seen this in other engines as well.

The shadow map is set to start at a distance from the camera, and since the shadows are so long with that time of day it's unable to fill the entire seen as it's beyond what it think's the start distance is, etc. You can mess with it by playing with the shadow camera distance and whatever we call the other slider, (the two sliders below dynamic and static in the renderer panel) but in many of those situations you'll end up having to push them out or bring them in in a way that will create strange outcomes, like filling the entire view with shadow, or drawing a heavy line of shadow some few feet in the distance.

Looking good. Will be interesting to see a zombie survival MMO.

Looking good! Will this be instanced based or will you be working on a large scale world? It looks really nice, I think a zombie MMO is something everyones been waiting for.

Thanks! For certain training areas it will be instanced but for the most part it will be a large scale world build with areas. We don't have plans to make it seamless, right now, so I can really concentrate on making on small area look good. Right now unfortunately you will 'zone' from area to area. Large scale seamless terrains are the long term goal though.

Just like typical MMO's once you get out of the 'training' instance, you will join the general population.

normal maps are not showing up on the streets/curbs, not sure why. They are _n, but I think that applies for only the terrain textures? I think I am missing some shader option that might might have turned off.

all still very temp stuff until we figure everything out.

This doesn't help the fact the we have to wait till February for the new Walking Dead episodes :). Just curious, is it going to be perma death, like you really have to stay alive. Coming along well can't wait to see more.

This will sound stupid, but how do you perma death zombies? I would think the great thing about this game is going around with your head blown off looking for brains.

Thanks for taking a look. There won't be perma' death since this is an MMO and I don't like to punish (much). We have some pretty cool things planned I think that will satisfy most players with their Survival and Undead lovin' desires.

I think there is a permadeath Zombie game when you die you become a zombie (cannot control the zombie, but you become an npc zombie).  Thought it was a pretty cool idea, but it is pretty much permadeath.

Mine is similar to what josh mentioned. As the player dies more and more they become more infected and eventually become a full zombie and can attack players but cant use anything else unless they get the "cure". Then they are back to non zombie again.

Concept of a sewerage treatment plant I did after a buddy of mine suggested it and I scribbled it on a napkin over a few beers. The napkin barely made it home.
