Title: [Resolved] Upgrading my World / Servers
Post by: DemonAgeOnline on Mar 09, 13, 08:22:11 AM
Question 1. - Say down the track we release our game and were making some decent income. Are we then able to purchase the full license?

Question 2. - I believe I read somewhere that servers must be hosted through HeroEngine Servers and cannot be done by us. If this is the case what If I wished to have australian servers, is this something that is negiotable ?

If you were to buy the Indie Source License which is $75k then you would be able to host on your own servers you would also be free to make whatever changes you wanted to make to the actual Engine.  The Indie Source License also reduces the rev. share down to something like 7% instead of 30%

I believe you can upgrade at any time, with the upgraded license taking presidence over the other one. I also believe you can set up servers anywhere, once you have the full license, though someone might want to confirm this.

The HeroCloud doesn't currently have a cluster in Australia, it's relatively uncommon for online games, just for cost versus users, so hosting tends to be done in Singapore, which is what we have in place. I suppose if you had some outrageously popular game that everyone was talking about while you were developing, we could discuss opening a cluster in Australia for it to accommodate the large following there. But at that point you'd probably just have a successful kickstarter, buy a source license, and setup servers on your own.
