Title: Help with Maya and general questions...
Post by: SomeT_ on Dec 07, 17, 04:10:20 PM
At the moment I can afford Maya LT only, would this work with Hero Engine as well? Will it achieve even basic stuff I can import into the game, e.g. a chair? Can I use other modelling tools? At the moment until I find a game artist anyway, I am only looking to create basic stuff with more of a focus on programming. E.g. can I make a basic cube in the game engine itself then assign code to it, similar to say Unity game engine?

As far as I know, you need the full edition of Maya or Max to work with the import pipeline of the engine.
But if you're just looking to test out some basic stuff, the engine already includes a selection of geometric objects like cubes and balls, and so on.

I have 3d modelling software but it don't really work in terms of a pipeline I believe, hopefully this engine supports other 3d modelling programs soon? I am presuming there options to import assets purchased elsewhere as well? (I have not installed the engine yet.) but for now the basic geometrical shapes should be enough to get me going on my aims.

Right now, Max and Maya are the only programs supported by the pipeline.

So you can't do something like import, fbx file? Presuming, will this feature be added later on?

An import for FBX files is one of the top requests from users, and the HE developers are working on it,  but there's no firm release date for it yet.
They're putting the parts together right now for the shift from HE 2.0 to HE 3.0, so an FBX import function is possibly part of that schedule at some stage.

I'd also suggest joining the official HE Skype chat group - https://community.heroengine.com/forums/index.php/topic,6178.0.html - you can get more help from users there too.
