What i do is the following.

I copy the texture to the HE\somemodel folder on my local repository.

Then i apply the texture in 3ds max, from that directory. (make sure its a heromaterial)

Then i export the model to the somemodel folder on my local repository, and copy them using the repository browser to the same folder on the server side HE\somemodel folder.

You can make another directory/folder on your computer no problem. And then save it there in the future.

There are multiple spaces in that path.

I would advise you to open your console window, and see if there are any errors showing. This is probably a texture not found issue. Did you apply the material from your HE\Rocks directory, or did you apply the texture, and then later just copied it to the HE\Rocks directory ?

If the elevator is simply animating via an animation, then most likely its physics isn't being adjusted. If you move the elevator via script then you'll be able to move it's physic's volume as well.

At least, I think that's what's happening to you.

I cant explain better without a picture. Behold my arrow drawing skills.

The red arrow object, i cannot move trough.

The funny thing is, if i turn on physics on the elevator, i can push it so it falls over on its side. Put i have to
push the red arrow object, the blue one still keeps passing trough me.

The blue arrow object goes up and down, and keeps passing trough me.

Its one object though, grouped up in 3ds max.

The Elevator is one object, very basic. A square pole in the middle, with a larger square "sliding" up and down along it.

I cannot run trough the pole, but i do fall trough the square platform.

Hello there,

Everything in my world seems ok, i can place new assets, move them, terrain anything.
But as soon as i place a mirror/water, i logout, and the water resets to the default size.

What am i missing ?

Another thing i ran into, i created an elevator in 3ds Max.

Simple animation, up, down, wait 5 seconds, loop.

Now, the pole of the elevator i cannot run trough, however, the platform, i sink trough, so the elevator
isnt taking me upwards ;)

Sorry for the newbie questions.

Thank you all for all the tips. Had some spare time again, tried my hand at texturing some more today.

Result is looking much better already, but now something else happens, and i might as well ask it here.

Both images are taken in my world, but in the second one, my view is shifted to the left a little. The tower behind gets visible suddenly then,

Is this a texture problem, and if so, any pointers as to where to look ?

Lastly: don't use spaces in the material name.

Even better: never use spaces.

Thanks Dwight btw, for pointing me to that tutorial about the uvmapping.

ActualFantasy, the problem you are experiencing, as Dwight points out, is not really a problem, it's a basic understanding of functionality in 3d modeling and texturing. I would recommend some beginner tutorials in texturing in Max or Maya as the right place to start.

Thanks both for your help. I followed the link Dwight gave me, and ill upload the result tonight ;) Its much better now.

I do have a question though. The front of the tower is extruded exactly the same way. Is it just because its narrower that this texture "seems" to fit better.

Anyways, i already got myselve a book about 3ds, its just that i got "ahead" of myselve, and wanted to try stuff. I did not get to the texture chapter yet ;)

I am not sure if thats the problem.

The tower was made fairly simple.

I started with a box, and then just extruded upwards. Still, som eparts look good, and others dont.
I will check out that site you pointed me at.

Hello there,

Im new to modeling, tried many things, but am running into something i cant seem to fix easily.
I created a model for a guard tower / gate of a large wall or castle.

Everything went fine, untill i went on to apply a nice brick texture. Ill attach the  render below.

I am just applying one texture, to the whole model. Why is it showing up nice on some parts, and why does it look so crazy on other parts ? And what can i do to fix this ?

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / [Resolved| CleanEngine questions.

I've only just began getting familair with the HeroEngine, and in many tutorials the word Clean engine gets mentioned.

Im not sure if i understand what it means though.

In my world, in the area organizer were many areas from the start, and also a clean test area. Is that clean test area the same as a Clean engine, or are all areas listed there, PART of my own Clean engine ?

And, why, if its called Clean engine, are there already so many areas there ?

Maybe im just missing a concept, or looking past the obvious. I hope someone can make it a little more clear.

Hello Dactylicxx,

I have had the same problem as you. I think the problem could be due to the fact that your HE folder is not the root folder, but rather a subfolder on your C:\. I fixed this in the following way.

On my network share p:\HE\ i have a directory called Tree. So the path is P:\HE\Tree.
In that folder are the files for the tree. One tree.hgm, and one treetexture.dds.

In 3DS max, i apply the texture, from that folder. So, when you select your HERO Texture, you make sure you pick it from the P:\HE\Tree folder.

Then, in the repository browser, i upload those 2 files to the server, in the same folder there.

As soon as i then load the asset from the Library in the HeroEngine, the texture gets applied.

If you want to check whats going wrong, you could, in the HeroEngine, open the console window by going to the "windows" menu and then check "console". If there is an error with your texture, you will see it there.

If you got any more questions, just reply here.
