Hello NoCake, you are raising some interesting points.

I will state this again for the record: IDEA FABRIK DOES NOT SET OR ASK FOR HARD DATES FOR PUBLISHING GAMES. We ask to be informed about your plans, so we can plan our work to support all developers at different stages of their game development. For example, staging work for game release takes two IF engineers two full weeks to prepare.

Regarding your specific questions, please email us at support and we can discuss options that are available to you regarding licensing.

Good day Everyone,

    There seems to be some speculation going around the web about how HeroEngine and the HeroCloud platform is set up and how it works. Some seem to think that development pre alpha servers and software are totally different from the alpha/beta or live servers and software.

    Though these two are deployed on two different servers, their configuration (or setup) is the same.  Live servers are using the same architecture and platform as our HeroCloud servers. The development and engineering team is the same, as the software is the same.

    However, there are a few differences between pre alpha HeroCloud and Live HeroCloud.
   
    First, where the world is hosted, covered above.
    Second, when you are ready to go to an open alpha or beta, we work with you while you pick how many servers you think you will need. Though we try to advise you towards the right number, so they will not cost us or you too much money, in the end, the choice is up to the game development team.  It is their game and their budget.
    Third, we continue to assist the teams with their development, and development issues, and assisted in creating new and custom features for the teams.
    Teams can (and have) gain access to their Master Control - this allows them to restart their server on their own, manually add or remove new players, etc.

    So, in the end, it is up to the game development teams to decide on the number of servers to fit their budget and expectations.

    We hope this helps to inform the community and those teams working hard on their games.

     IMPORTANT: We pay for all the base operating costs, but beyond the initial testing and launch window for your game if you wish to grow your game or keep your game at a distribution level beyond what our share of the revenue can cover, then you would either need to scale your game back, or cover the costs yourself. Basically, if you want to have 1 million players, but not charge them any money, then you are going to have to cover those costs, or work with us to figure out how to generate revenue from your player base.

    Please remember that when your game goes live, be it alpha, beta or release or you raise revenue through a crowd-funding campaign, you are always responsible for paying 30% of all revenue as royalties to us. If you refuse to pay our royalties within 30 days, we have the right to turn your servers off. However, first we will still attempt to work with you to:

    - Reduce the number of servers (merge servers)
    - Work out a payment plan or an alternative licensing model
    - And shut down servers only if no solution can be found.

    How does this relate to our current situation?

    Starting in September 2015, one of our clients has refused to pay our royalties amounting to 30% of their revenues. Idea Fabrik/IFS is a small company, and our funding relies on those royalties and our VC's.

    After two months of not getting our royalties paid, we were faced with difficult decisions. And after additional two months without being able to find a solution, we had to shut down their live game servers.

    Please note that we still hope for a positive outcome for all the players and fans of the game - that's why their development servers have always been and are still up and running, so they can continue to work on their game.

We are sad to announce that as of Wednesday, 23 December, The Repopulation Alpha servers will be taken offline following negotiations with Above and Beyond Technologies. Given the options we presented ABT management with, they opted for taking Alpha servers offline.

We continue to support Above and Beyond Technologies as best we can. Development servers for all games have and will remain online, including the ones for The Repopulation game. Although we still have additional negotiations to conduct, we hope that these will be finished soon and we will have good news for the fans of The Repopulation in the new year.

Hello and good day to everyone!
I want to say how much we appreciate the patience, understanding and support shown by the Community during the last weeks.  We do understand your concerns and want to reassure you that we are doing all in our power to resolve the issues. We are moving forward and that is good news. We wish this process was faster.

What we can report to you right now is that the support and all servers, including development servers have been and continue to be up and running without interruption. We continue to work on the back-end to make sure we can continue to strive towards long term security and an even better platform for you.

We also understand your continuing concerns and desire to know why this situation arose and more details about it. Please know that all information that we can legally disclose, we have, and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Again, we sincerely thank you for your patience and support, and ask for your continued understanding while we work this out.

Good day Everyone,
    We have a small update to give you all. Though we are still very limited in what we are able to communicate, we are happy to say that servers are still up and running for the next few weeks. We are still negotiationing with 3rd parties, but are working very hard for a positive resolution.

    We hope that this period of uncertainty will be over sooner than later. But do note, we are doing everything possible to get back to business as usual. We are dedicated to your dreams and hard work in making your dream MMO, which are at the top of our list.

    We also want to let you all know that your amazing support as a community has not gone unnoticed. We thank each and every one of you that has put effort to help and support IF and HeroEngine, even with the very limited amount of information. The ideas, support emails, community cohesion, none of this has escaped us in any way.

So once more - Thank You!
