Hi folks!

Currently me and a friend are beginning work on an MMORPG. We are operating under the name TalosSoft. I will be incorporating at the beginning of 2012, probably around February.

We chose the name TalosSoft due to the great joy we gain from Greek Mythology. Some of you may know who Talos was, others may not.

There are currently two of us on the team, both of us working as a jack of all trades, which is quite interesting when you're learning HSL and 3D Modeling at the same time. We will actually probably be purchasing a vast amount of the models/assets that we use, at least for the earlier portion of development.

We just finished our Game Design Document for our game and are digging through the wiki, I take breaks from the wiki to view the forums, mainly reading through the scripting section.

I have spent quite a bit of time researching the MMO Industry to identify what it is players are wanting in their game. And like everyone developing a game, we think we got it!

We are looking for artists of the graphical persuasion (3D Modelers, those handy with Photoshop, etc.) as we are both preferential to the code side of things, something about trying and trying to get something to work until it finally works as intended is awesome to us.

We generally do a large portion of our collaboration on Skype.

Hmmm, is this like a flowchart kind of thing? When I start putting my ideas to paper, I literally put them to paper. I have sheets and sheets of paper with flowchart like sketches on them strewn about my room...so much so that now I'm beginning to loose track. I'd love to hear what other kinds of things are used by people. Preferably a software of some sort that is, well, preferably free as there isn't any room in my budget for this right now.

(Allowing your credit card to rebill month after month forgetfully is hilariously common among online game players.)

I usually only forget the first month. Then I figure I might as well play another month. Then something happens and I end up playing another 3 months in addition to that :/

or try to secure some funding if possible then hire a great Programmer like in Our case with the Game we are wanting to make we are having to Secure rights to use a Major IP with the current IP holder and hes done said if we Impress him with our prototype  then hes gona make an initial investment in our Team so once and if that happens we are goning to start looking for some top notch Programmers and 3d Modelers and the such  so I been prying everyday it works out because nobody has used This IP we're seeking to gain game rights to and Its an IP alot of people has been wanting to have a MMO made on ..


so I wish you the best but hey I would start look into some investors if your game idea  is worth seeking investors

Good luck with that! I would ask you which on you're trying to go with but I'd rather you not say in case they go snooping around the internet for you, and they'd likely make you sign some 5,000 page document that somewhere buried inside will have NDA clauses.

Mproducer, they slowly ramped up the number of players allowed in a server as the tests went on to stress test. There more people near you caused the more models to LOD as your video card ran out of memory.

I was actually the most disappointed that the starting experience consisted of nothing but fighting for spawns. Otherwise, man was I pumped to see how well outlet server tech handles the massive numbers being thrown at it.

RIFT was like that for a solid 2-3 weeks :(

I like to refer to Skyrim as research...yes, that's it. That's what I tell my wife when she gets on me about playing it. I'm like "you want me to make a profitable MMO? I must research Skyrim." Little does she realize, Skyrim is Single Player. Just don't tell her that. Although, I'm planning on implementing a few things from Skyrim into my game, I'm trying to decide if FFA-PVP is a good idea with a Crime System in place. I'm also thinking of using the skill system as opposed to using a class system I like how the skill progression progresses you in levels, I think combining that with an old fashioned tried and true XP system for leveling is the way to go...

I assure you it's all very standard.

Development server > test server > live server

Changes can be pushed up the chain, or hotfixed directly to any world. Player clients are available for projects in beta on the test and production servers.

Judging by your LinkedIn profile I guess you'll have an idea of what standard is so... :p

Great pics. Love the mood. It randomly occurs to me, looking at the Yethios pics, that many devs don't know that you can attach script to things in the library. The most beneficial feature I've seen from this was when the engineers set me up with "randomization" elements for the placement of objects. Like everytime I placed a tree it randomized it's rotation and scale, etc. Also great for placing whole groups of objects with randomization, so you can place a tree and have it randomly place bushes and mushrooms around it, etc. Complicated, but fun when you get it working right.

I did not know that. Is there and docs set up with this?

@Kahlil these look amazing. If the quality of gameplay is as high as the art you may have just won over a fan :)

I am purposefully not going ot be playing this game for a while.

I love Star Wars. As any nerd should and does.

However, I will never finish my game if great games keep getting released. Make me wonder how I'm supposed to do something with such a small shop when these guys release such AWESOME stuff :/

Havn't come across one myself.  Not surprising most would be engine specific though so everyone is on the same page, so to speak.

Go start one, spread the word!!! lol

I would but I'm too busy finishing this blasted GDD and digging through the HE Wiki! It appears there are several, just all are not very active. Would be nice to get one going that was active continuously. Maybe gank other members lol.
