The brilliant mind behind apple and its technology has passed away. Steve Jobs was a fantastic thinker in the industry and he will be missed.

One of the greatest inventors in the history of man kind. Made an amazing OS, Revolutionized music with iTunes, made touch screen hand held devices a way of life. He led us into the future.

Letīs not overexaggerate - Steve Jobs was not "one of the greatest inventors in the history of mankind".
At least I donīt recall him having single-handedly invented the OS or iTunes or anything else.
He was however one of those few people with an exceptional sense for just the right product and the right way to sell it.
He surely was a kind of IT visionary; and I sure am not happy that he has passed away.

As of October 9, 2011, Jobs is listed as either primary inventor or co-inventor in 342 US patents or patent applications related to a range of technologies from actual computer and portable devices to user interfaces (including touch-based), speakers, keyboards, power adapters, staircases, clasps, sleeves, lanyards and packages.

On another note he did invent iTunes even down to the color of the buttons claims one of his colleagues. It was looked at as revolutionary because the industry was taking a larger hit in piracy at that time. He reached out and collaborated with to many record companies and artist to form the monster we know as iTunes.

I think a lot really don't understand how much of an inventor he was.

i would go invester and marketing rather than inventer. much like microsoft they took idea's and repackages them as there own.

Yes, plus at least some of those patents are so trivial that you would normally think that things like that couldnīt be patented.
Regarding iTunes, to my knowledge similar stores had already existed for some time, they just werenīt nearly as successful.
Jobs had the genius to know how to make a successful shop.

And donīt get me wrong - I do see some of his work as inventions of some kind, be it the invention of an IT-ecosystem or whatelse.
"One of the greatest inventors of all time" on the other hand seems a bit far fetched to me.
Let me state again that I truly am sad that heīs gone. If you liked him or not, you canīt reasonably deny that he was a fascinating and important person.

I agree like him or not... i pretty much hate all things Apple... but then again I also wanna kick bill gates in the nuts... Doesnt mean they didnt accomplish some great advances in the field of technology whether or not I agree with thier methodologies.
