[Resolved] Normal Map orientation question
« on: Jan 05, 13, 12:38:04 PM »

Hi!

I hope everyone has had a great holiday season!

I've been searching for the answer to this, but am unable to find it.

My Normal Maps never seem to line up with the desired placement on the model uploaded.  Do normal maps need to have a certain axis orientation applied to them in the Nvidia filter in Photoshop? And if so, does the orientation matter when using Maya or 3DS Max?

I'm close to solving this issue.  I'm just curious if heroengine has a preferred axis orientation for Normal Maps?

My texture maps are aligning just fine.

Thanks!

I don't understand that question, but all textures are mapped to meshes.

If you could provide a screenshot of the textures in photoshop as well as a shot of the mis-aligned normal maps in engine, it would be very helpful.

I solved it.

Evidently I had a setting in the Nvidia plug-in active that basically cut the Normal Map in half for some reason.  So when I was running it through the pipeline into the gameworld, the Normal Map UV was totally out of whack.

However good to go and I actually ended up with way better Normal Maps in game from this.

You can delete this thread if you want.  Solved.  :)
