[Resolved] Problems with object materials
« on: Jul 27, 11, 11:00:57 AM »

Hey,

I hope this is not a repost, but I didnt find anything similar, so... :>

we're having some problems with our object materials.

This only happens witha couple of objects, most work just fine.

Basically what happens is, that I create object-A and sofar everything is fine. but when I create object-B it'll not show its default texture but rather take on the texture of object-A. The same will happen in reverse if object-B is created first.

The console also spits out the following error-text:

"!ERROR!System:MATERIAL REDEFINITION ERROR:  Material [02 - Default] was first defined in file
[\world\modularassets\ground_yard.gr2] and then redefined by file [\world\modularassets\wall_gate_yards.gr2]
Reason: The second material's setting for DiffuseMap (/world/modularassets/textures/map_wallgate.dds) does not match the first material
(/world/modularassets/textures/yard_ground.dds).  Materials sharing a name must have identical settings, fix the art by eliminating the
differences or renaming one of the materials and then restart HeroBlade.
17:09:27: CreationObject wall_gate_yards.gr2 seems to be done"

now, we know that there must be something wrong with the materials. but we cant quite pinpoint it, because this problem applies only to some of a large number of objects that were built and uploaded in exactly the same way.

So, any suggestions? :D

You have a default name being used by more than one gr2.

wall_gate_yards is using the Material 02 - Default
and at least
ground_yard is also using Material 02 - Default

it isn't happening to all of your objects, either because some of them have identical settings, so can use the same material, or because different artists made the objects and named the materials something different.

Start with opening up any model that is throwing the error and changing the "02 - Default" to something unique.

All materials must have a unique name inside of Max/Maya.
