Vortex Color Blending Bug
« on: Feb 17, 13, 02:34:08 PM »

Hey guys,

While working on a full screen FX today I noticed that the color blending on vortexes is off, probably since Sapphire but I hadn't worked with them for a while. To illustrate the issue you can see the attached screenshot.

To duplicate this you can just create a vortex with stock settings. Change the distortion field to 0.1 and the distortiontexturerotation field to 0 to make it easier to spot. All the colors behind the vortex appear washed out. The screenshot is a bit dark but duplicating in game will make it obvious.

Could it be related to HDR, since that is new since Sapphire?

It's possible. I'll play with it some more the next time I'm on see if can pinpoint anything.

So did a bit more digging around today. This appears to be an issue with ATI cards, and works fine on NVidia.

To better illustrate how bad the issue is I snapped a new screenshot.

I see: the color looks splotchy, almost like a posterize image effect. But then not on nVidia.  Strange.

Does this happen in all of your environments, or is that one the most noticeable?

It happens on all of them, but this scene (night time) it stands out more than most. But in any area once I run a vortex, the colors become very washed out, regardless of the settings. In the shot there it's all transparent.

There's some major HDR tweaks, and one major fix coming in sapphire.L. Let's see what this problem looks like after it deploys.

Did the latest engine updates help this, JC?
