Folder structure and delete unused files?
« on: Apr 03, 13, 08:18:15 AM »

Hey.

We are going to start cleaning up a bit in our folders and such to remove old and unused stuff.

on the UNUSED and UNUSABLE side there are ALOT of the hero engine standard stuff that we dont need. and alot of the folders.

I tried deleting some of the stuff in the Resp. BUT it says im not allowed to... not sure why.

Also im wondering can we build our folder structure anyway we want or are there some rules or limitations we need to follow?

If you got a message that you aren't allowed to delete something in the repo, then you were deleting something that you shouldn't have, so that's already worrisome that you thought you should delete those things. There is no need to delete anything. You've got 2 to 3 years of dev work, focus on that first. You can use whatever folder structures you'd like, except where otherwise noted, like with the dynamic2 folder for characters, and the folder for terrain textures and dynamic details to show up by default.

hm... okey. The reason we wanted to delete stuff we dont use is to get some of the clutter out and tidy up the folders... cause now theres folders for demo games and all sorts of stuff......

I wouldnt touch shit unless you know specifically that you dont need it heheh. Just make sure everyone on your team that deals with the repo knows where to place things. Honestly there should only be a few people touching the repo anyways, to keep it clean and keep potential mess ups to a minimum.

Some of the stuff i tried deleteing was the  textures that comes with the engine, you know grass, dirt, rocks and stuff.. and those we aren't even alowed to use int the game so dont see any reason to have in in the resp.
