Adding a single path follower causes dramatic FPS drop
« on: Jul 15, 13, 06:58:30 PM »

Hi guys,

In a previous area i had created a monorail track with a train. I then added a path with some waypoints. I then added a path follow and parented the train to it. It all worked perfectly, with no drop in performance.

In a new area, with virtually identical draw calls and textures on screen as the first area. I created another monorail and made a path with waypoints and followers. Now when the train is following the path, the FPS drops gradually from my HE max of 170 down to around 20 in about 1 minute.

It does this even when i am facing away from the train and when it is culled totally from sight.

Any ideas on what could be causing this suddenly differing behaviour with essentially the same setup.

Are you printing any info in the chat or console window during this drop time?
When spamming printout of data, it can slow things way down. We went down to 4 fps a few times doing that.

It sounds like you still have physics enabled on the object.

I still had the physics enabled on the first version without this fps drop. i will see what taking off all physics and shadow casting will do.

Change the physics from its exact mesh to be a cube. That fixes your issue :)
