Environmental Decals (footprints)
« on: Oct 19, 13, 11:01:18 AM »

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to create (and they don't even need to be dynamically....painted is just fine) decals on terrain objects so I can have random footprints on sand or snow?

Again this is purely for environmental look....I'm not talking about the player "leaving" footprints as he/she is walking across the sand/snow.

I thought about putting them on a terrain 'layer' but they would all be facing the same direction and I'm looking for a more "random" appearance.

Thanks,
Todd

You could create a texture that already has the footprints scattered in fairly different directions.  Or perhaps the terrain editor allows you to choose the rotation of a texture before you paint so you can orient it different ways.

Thanks. I guess I'll try an alt texture with footprints and see how that comes off. If the texture painter allows for rotation then it would be global for that texture. :(

I'll give it a shot.

Thanks,
Todd

Try using a custom brush and the color painter.  Paint right on your current texture.
