Delete the deleted files from repo
« on: Dec 01, 14, 01:35:41 PM »

Any way to delete the deleted files from the repo.

Seems like all the old models etc that im deleting are still there. Just worried they will glog up the system and cause problems with naming etc.

Noticed that i just tried to make a folder that had the name of a previous folder that had been deleted but it said the name was already in use.

For safety reason, I don't think that they'll ever make 100% deletion possible.

Hopefully these deleted files dont make a big footprint. Just imagine 2 years of development or more with thousands of deleted files being kept track of hah.

When the live game is being compiled, I think that they'd probably be able to filter out any files flagged as deleted.

It wouldn't affect the end product, as the game only loads and caches assets that are actually used in the game.  The repo is strictly for development.

That being said, it does seem like a lot being stored, when you factor in not only the number of teams each using numerous assets, and the fact that when you upload new versions of assets, it still retains all of the previous versions, as well.

well binary versioning isn't bad size wise actually, which is how the repo seems to work and makes sense as it's how most database driven storage aspects work.

As far as when you migrate off into your own cloud slice or head towards production, deleted files won't go through the live server migration from my understanding. They get put into a group that isn't moved. Part of the whole file release system.
