(resolved) Fog - Performance Impact?
« on: Feb 05, 15, 09:44:29 PM »

So i was thinking, what performance impact does fog have. Positive benefits or negative downsides etc. Anyone able to explain? Cheers.

In and of itself, fog has no performance impact.

As an object grows more distant from the camera, HeroEngine drops to successively lower LOD levels (assuming you have them), and then at some point stops rendering the asset all together.

The point of fog is to help obscure this LOD drop and eventual lack of objects by blending the scene to the color of the horizon.

Cheers
