This project was put together by 3 friends irl who all played Ultima at the age of 14 together. This project has been in perpetual development for 6 years, reaching its 4th with HE. I started to code when I was 13 playing Ultima Online and using EasyUO. I have since moved into RoR professionally but always had this itch to make my version of Ultima Online/Darkfall.


Currently all the assets are placeholders.


Thanks to the great generosity of HE we have yet to spend a dime into this project except our own time. I do not see us doing a kickstarter. If anything initial funding will come from a blessed non-combat item the player can showcase as well as access to beta.


This is a passion project. Making money from the game is 2nd only because it is the lifeline to keeping the game up and running. Making a game environment that Ultima gave us again is our #1 goal.


If you wish to contribute content to the game please let us know. As with all MMO's we need Art Assets.

How far is it to a completed mmo? FUCK!

There is so much to do and so much to see that I am having a hard time organizing everything into an official announcement. So I am just going to start posting my progress.
There will be a lot posted under Development Log that will showcase the current systems we have. I can’t stress enough that this is a Development Log and the majority of what you see will actually be nothing like how the game will look. Game assets are easy to swap.

Some major strides have been made to the combat and ability casting systems.

+ Abilities can require a Player must have correct weapon equipped now. (RequiredItemEquippedDec)
+ Abilities Cost Reagents (AbilityRequiredItemsDec)
+ Abilities properly consume Mana/Stamina now
+ Abilities can be held/cancelled/released now

+ Gathering on all nodes (tree,stone,rock,bush) now works off the Treasure Spec Oracle (Loot generation needs tweaking)
+ Added Reagents to Items
+ Added Reagents to Treasure Spec Oracle Tables for Gathering Nodes
(note: need to add necrobeans reagent, skinnable from monsters/players)

+ Housing has been sorted out to separate awareness systems
+ Housing Items now pick back up by right clicking them (not synchronous after restart – todo list + lockdown feature)
+ Made some default House Objects for Now:
House Wall Types

+ Player drop Grave upon down state (need to change to once ganked)
+ NPC drop Grave based of Treasure Spec Oracle (loot generation needs tweaking)
+ Graves are now accessible by multiple players so you can fight to grab loot
+ Added Paperdoll (needs GUI update)

The site has gone down but the project has not. Still working on polishing some systems I have previously implemented.

Still interested in talking to anyone with art assets or world building experience.

An asset bomb of HE ready assets would be an amazing help. ;)

Housing Overview

Users will find/craft/loot Foundations(item).



There are different size foundations:






A user can double click a Foundation Item in their backpack to begin Placing it.

It will appear "yellow" until the foundation has level terrain under it


Red for when something is obstructing it


And green for when it is just right


Once placed a user can then click their foundation to open the House Construction View


The control panel is on the left and your Blueprint Items are listed on the right.

Blueprint Items can be found/crafted/purchased/looted.
A Blueprint item will be deleted upon learning it but the player will never forget how to craft it.

Would have been faster but I currently have a little problem with placing stairs. Just something I have not got around to fixing. You will notice me fixing it like 3 times in the video.

I highly doubt that. This system is made up of a lot of components. I could maybe give a high level view of it but anything past that is more than a days work and I just dont have the time to give up for that right now. As well it still has some kinks I need to work out such as:

1. stair issue
2. Fix broken door statefulness
3. Add Ruleset to Door Access (past owner access)
4. Don't delete entire house upon requesting construction mode after house is constructed
5. Extending Placement Validation (users can still turn walls off their lot)
 

Also I feel I should mention that this will be one part of how we monetize our game. Selling Wall and Floor Tiles.

Users who prefer hardcore PvP can select to render all houses with the same basic tile and wall set so their load performance is not affected.

Casting System

Here is a quick overview of the Casting Mechanics using a Projectile Activator.
It includes the ability to hold your spells and cancel them at anytime.
Casting Abilities requires the correct item type in hand and reagents in your bag (depending on the ability).

Be sure to turn annotations on, there is no audio.
