What kind of interpolation algorithm does HE2 use for heightmaps?

You'll probably get better results phrasing your question as "I want to do x, but y is happening", or "Why does x happen when I think y should happen".

Cooper is suggesting that you ask what you are looking to do with heightmaps and the many experienced developers here will be able to assist you and offer suggestions on what to do.

Our implementation of heightmaps is very specific for our use cases and there is no one 'algorithm' that can be shared outside of posting all the source code for heightmaps which is not something we will post. Also since heightmap code can't be edited with out a source license that information would not help you much at any rate.
