Do you mean what is the rendering engine like? It's not bad - but it's getting an update eventually to modernize it a bit more with DX11.

Well, the HeroEngine can be used to make any kind of online game - although most of the people who use it seem to be making MMOs with it.

The HeroEngine uses its own scripting language, called HSL - http://hewiki.heroengine.com/wiki/HSL

HSL sits on top of the backend C++ as an abstration layer. which makes things much easier to work with as the HE devs have provided a pretty solid library of functions to call without having to know how to make complex calls.

That is a nice thing with HE. The engine has focused on taking some of the nitty gritty detailed work of server / client coding and make it easy enough anyone can build out a MMO. Well I say anyone you still really need to fully understand advanced system design.

The engine does the work but you have to provide the engineering blueprints for your game.

Graphic wise if you understand graphics well it can do some really powerful stuff. Just look at the repopulation show us project threads. For a MMO it provides all the get up and go you would need. As mentioned also the devs are working to really clean up the client and the step it up to the DX11 era and while building it are doing so to accept the dx 12 that will be coming down the pike in a year or two when it's finished.

You would use the HSL scripting to create the inventory.

There are for example though an Item foundation system which has some key components you need to create things like inventory and items.

The item system lets you create items then assign them to containers such as the players backpack etc.

There is a basic mmo implementation you can look at called hjref. All accounts are given access to it. It had a working item and inventory system. These two systems use almost all aspects of the engine in regards to scripting and the Dom editors. Definitely a great place to start.

Also read the wiki over and over. There is a lot of information about how to handle specific systems in heroengine

I have seen in some https://community.heroengine.com/forums/index.php/topic,5606.0.html
Example.

But i'm still can't figure it how the line work in HSL.
Have seen in Scripting Wiki also.

I suggest opening 2 instances of Hero Engine, One connected to your world and the other connect to the HJREF system.

Copy the Server Class Item from the hjref system and into your system. This will take some time as you track down the missing classes and fields while saving the script methods.

Read the code around the errors as they usually show how different classes and methods are used to build an MMO system.

Once you have copied the entire item system you will have a good understanding of how to construct something in Hero Engine using the Spec Oracle system and glomming.

CTRL+/ also becomes a friend for omitting code for a temporary commit.
