3DS Max Exporter Tools Update Progress
« on: Aug 15, 19, 02:41:59 PM »

Hello everyone,

As I am sure you are aware, Autodesk with their divine wisdom has removed all download links to versions 2016 and older, while sneakily auto-updating installed versions of 3DS Max to the latest versions.

This has caused a major problem as the HERO Engine export tools addon does not work for versions beyond 2016. We are in the process of updating these tools to work with the newer versions and will post details of our progress in this thread.

In the mean time we have a temporary solution. There is a way to download 3DS max 2016 through the AVA system and below is a tutorial explaining how to do so:

Downloading 3DS Max 2016 Instructions

0) This method doesn't appear to work with FireFox Browser, however Edge or Chrome can do it (from what we tested)

1) Go to the AVA portion of the website, here is the link: https://ava.autodesk.com/

2) Press the first option that says "Download Autodesk Products"

3) It will ask you whether you want try a new download experience which is currently in beta, say no.

4) Next it will ask you which product and release year you wish to download. At the bottom of the chat area there is a bar where you can type in your response. Type "3ds max 2016" and hit the enter key.

5) It will then ask you what sort of license you hold, "Paying Customer", "Student" or "30 Day Free Trial". Select the Option which is applicable to you. Note: That if you select Paying Customer you will need your license key handy for later.

6) After selecting your license type it will ask you which method you want to use to download the product. It will recommend downloading through your autodesk account but they are wrong on all planes of existence. Select the Download in AVA option.

7) There are a few last questions which are self-explanatory and if everything was done correctly you will receive a nice big Download Now Button

8 ) Press the Download Now button. It will then proceed to install the Autodesk Download Manager, or open it, if you already have it installed on your system. Once opened, you will find it downloading 3ds Max 2016 onto your system.

9) Once the download is finished, if you have selected the "Paying Customer" license type earlier, you will need to enter your license key as well as a product code.

10) All done... well not quite. In order to prevent 3DS Max from simply updating your version again you need to disable the Autodesk Desktop Manager Application Process BEFORE opening 3ds Max. This is a video demonstrating how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_HZRDY-6Nk

This process should also work with older versions of 3ds max going back to 2014 based on our tests.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience of this entire situation and are working tirelessly to get the HeroEngine export tools working with the latest versions of 3DS Max. All progress in this area will be appended to this thread.

We thank you for your patience.
